It's a ritual, a treasure hunt, a universal language among Disney fans. Pin trading has brought millions of enthusiasts together since 1999 — and Disneyland Paris is one of the most active scenes in the world.

You may have seen those Disneyland Paris employees wearing lanyards covered in colorful pins. Or those families scouring store windows in search of an elusive model.

At Once Upon Magic, we've been fans forever. We'll explain everything about this magical tradition — and present our selection of the most beautiful official Disneyland Paris pins, including the very latest releases from June 2026.

The Origins

Born in 1999 at Walt Disney World

It all began during the Millennium Celebration at Walt Disney World in Florida. Disney launched a program allowing visitors to exchange their pins with Cast Members.

The concept immediately exploded and became a global tradition, exported to all Disney parks.

Today, millions of official pins have been produced since 1999. Some fetch several hundred euros on the resale market.

The Ritual

The Golden Rules of
Pin Trading

📌
Only official Disney pins are accepted

Cast Members only trade with pins purchased in official Disney stores.

🔄
Maximum 2 trades per Cast Member per day

Disney limits trades to 2 per Cast Member and per guest on the same day.

🧒
Children always have priority

A Cast Member may refuse a trade with an adult to reserve it for a child.

🤫
Hidden Mickeys — the secret quest

Some Cast Members discreetly wear "Hidden Mickey pins" — rare, concealed pieces.

🚫
No negotiation on the choice

It is always the Cast Member who chooses which of their pins they offer for trade.

Analysis

Why pin trading
is so addictive

01

Absolute exclusivity

Pins produced in limited quantities. Once sold out, they disappear from the official market.

02

The emotional dimension

Each pin is associated with a memory, a trip, a beloved character from childhood.

03

The global community

Forums, Instagram, conventions… "Pinners" form a passionate and generous community.

04

Miniature art

In a few square centimeters, Disney designers capture the essence of an entire character.

05

Rising value

Some old pins resell for hundreds of euros. Hidden Mickeys are particularly sought after.

06

Accessible to all

Starting at €9 for an open edition, the pin is one of the only official Disney souvenirs affordable for all budgets.

Expert Tips

Our tips for
getting started

🎯

Start with a theme

Choose a universe that is close to your heart — Mickey, Princesses, Pixar…

🔍

Open Edition vs Limited Edition

Limited Edition pins are rarer and more sought after for trading with Cast Members.

🧲

Invest in a good lanyard

The lanyard allows you to wear your pins in the park and present them for trades.

📦

Keep the backing cards

Each pin comes on an official card — they prove authenticity.

⚠️

Beware of counterfeits

"Scrapper pins" flood online marketplaces. Spot them by their shoddy finish.

👥

Join the community

Facebook groups and Disney forums are a goldmine for discovering the best pieces.

"Pin trading is the only activity at Disneyland Paris where every visitor can become an actor in the magic — not just a spectator."
