Into the Inkdark:
Lorcana enters its collector era
Ravensburger used D23 2026 to unveil new details about Into the Inkdark, a Disney Lorcana set scheduled for 2027. On the agenda: Disney Villains, new Collector Boosters, and above all, the first serialized cards in the game's history.
D23 2026 Announcement
A darker new chapter for Lorcana
Into the Inkdark will bring Disney villains to the forefront. Hades is among the characters already officially mentioned, as part of a story centered on the mysterious Dark Illuminary.
On August 14, 2026, Disney and Ravensburger detailed several upcoming additions for the trading card game. While the Villains theme naturally draws attention, the most significant announcement for collectors concerns the very structure of Lorcana products starting in 2027.
Save the date: Into the Inkdark is announced for 2027. The precise release date, European pricing, and full card list have not yet been communicated in the official announcement reviewed.
Collector novelty
Collector Boosters of 12 premium cards
random premium foil cards announced in each Collector Booster.
Into the Inkdark will debut this new booster format.
Collector boosters and displays will be available in limited quantities through select channels.
Ravensburger specifies that these boosters will feature special foil treatments and a higher frequency of high-rarity cards. They do not replace standard Lorcana boosters: both formats are intended to coexist.
Serialized cards
The first numbered Lorcana cards
✨ A new rarity: Illustrious
Ravensburger presents Illustrious cards as a space allowing renowned artists to provide a particularly elaborate interpretation of the characters.
🔢 Only 23 copies
Six Illustrious cards are planned per set, and only 23 copies of each will be printed in serialized form, according to the official announcement.
🐉 Maleficent kicks off the collection
The first card revealed is Maleficent – Biding Her Time, showcased during D23 2026.
💫 Premium finishes
Disney announces premium foil and specific accents for these extremely high-rarity cards.
Important: "23 copies" refers to the serialized Illustrious cards described in the announcement. This does not mean that all Illustrious cards, all variants, or the entire Into the Inkdark set will be limited to 23 copies.
Availability
Where will Collector Boosters be sold?
Official information indicates that Collector Boosters and their displays will be produced in limited quantities and sold in Ravensburger Play Hub stores, on the Ravensburger online shop, and at select Disney retail points.
At this stage, this does not confirm availability at Disneyland Paris, nor the quantities intended for France. We will need to wait for European communications from Ravensburger and Disney before considering French distribution as a given.
Collector's tip: faced with a new product announced as limited, avoid confusing the rarity of the sealed product with the rarity of the cards inside it. The contents of a Collector Booster remain random.
Why this announcement matters
Lorcana moves closer to premium TCG standards
The simultaneous arrival of collector-dedicated boosters and serialized cards marks an important evolution for Disney Lorcana. Until now, Enchanted cards and other special treatments captured most of the collection interest. With Into the Inkdark, Ravensburger adds a tier of rarity whose announced print run is directly quantifiable.
For Disney fans, the choice of a Villains-focused set is also strategic: Maleficent, Hades, and the other antagonists have a collector base that extends far beyond the trading card game alone.
